Vitosha Mountain & Boyana Waterfall Half-Day Trip
Sofia's own mountain, a short hike and a hidden waterfall
Overview
Mount Vitosha rises directly above Sofia, close enough that this trip needs no early start and works well even on short notice — a good option for a spare afternoon, a stopover between flights, or a gentler day after a long transfer. We stop first at Zlatni Mostove ('Golden Bridges'), a striking river of loose grey boulders that has slowly crept down the mountainside over thousands of years.
From there, an easy 45–60 minute walk through beech forest leads to the Boyana Waterfall, a quiet spot that feels far removed from the city just a short drive below. The walking is gentle enough for most fitness levels, making this our most flexible and accessible trip — ideal if your schedule or energy doesn't stretch to a full day out.
