Plovdiv Old Town & Ancient Theatre Day Trip
One of Europe's oldest cities, a working Roman theatre and the Kapana arts quarter
Overview
Plovdiv has been inhabited for around 8,000 years, and its Old Town wears that history openly — Revival-era mansions in ochre and deep red line cobbled streets that sit directly above a 2nd-century Roman Theatre, still used for concerts today. We give you unhurried time to explore both the Old Town and the theatre itself, one of the best-preserved of its kind anywhere in the world.
After lunch in the Kapana ('the trap') district — a once-industrial quarter turned into Plovdiv's creative heart, full of galleries, coffee roasters and design studios — you'll have free time to wander at your own pace before we head back to Sofia. It's an easy day that mixes ancient history with one of the Balkans' most walkable, photogenic city centres.
