Seven Rila Lakes Hiking Day Trip
A glacial lake hike through Bulgaria's most iconic mountain scenery
Overview
The Seven Rila Lakes are a chain of glacial lakes stacked up a dramatic cirque above the tree line, each with its own name and character — from 'the Eye', almost perfectly round, to 'the Twin', the largest of the seven. A chairlift carries you most of the way up, cutting out the steepest climb, and from the top station a panoramic trail links viewpoints over five or more of the lakes depending on the route and weather.
This is one of the most rewarding day hikes in the Balkans, and we keep the pace flexible to suit your group — a packed lunch and water are provided so you can eat with a view rather than on a schedule. Good walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended, since conditions on the exposed ridge can change quickly even in summer.
